Webcasting has been generally considered an expensive method of reaching a wide audience. But it's really quite cost-effective. Radio webcasters send one stereo audio stream for an entire month for only $1.50. One stream does not equate to one listener because the listener would have to be tuned in 24/7 for 30 days.
The reality is that listeners come and go. There's 720 hours in a 30 day month. So a single stream can reach hundreds of different people in a month's time. If just one hundred people listened to a single stream in a month's time, then 100 streams would reach 10,000 people. That means you're only spending 1.5 cents to deliver your show to each person. And as the number of listeners goes up, the cost per person goes down.
Now let's say you have a great show that's growing rapidly in popularity. So, of course you have devoted fans. Give them the opportunity to become Network Affiliates and carry your show on their own Web site where they can sell their own ads and merchandise. Now, with just 10 Network Affiliates, you're audience has expanded to 100,000 people. With 100 Network Affiliates, you're webcast would reach more than a million people.
When it comes to streaming video webcasting, the transmission of high quality video data pushes up the amount of bandwidth consumed and the costs rise accordingly. But even these costs can be reduced with an Affiliate network and an advertising revenue sharing plan.
